Acer Laptop Battery with 3,000 Charge Cycles

clock September 12, 2011 12:45 by author Ty

Acer has a new laptop series out called the Aspire Ethos and it packs a powerful and long-life battery that retains 80% capacity for more that 1,000 charge cycles. Some claims of the Acer Aspire Ethos battery have been as high as 1,000 to 3,000 charge cycles.  The Acer Aspire Ethos battery is a sealed, non-replaceable Lithium-polymer battery, which has a comparatively better efficiency than Lithium-ion batteries. It’s very typical for a Lithium-ion laptop battery to be replaced within one to three years. With 1,000 to 3,000 charge cycles, the Lithium-polymer battery could potentially last up to eight years or more. The Acer Aspire Ethos 8-cell Lithium-polymer battery will also last up to 8 hours off of one full charge.

Apple iPad 3 Battery. Thinner, Lighter, More Expensive.

clock September 8, 2011 12:14 by author Ty

Apple iPad 3

Apple’s next generation iPad 3 is to be built with thinner, lighter, longer lasting, and more expensive batteries. Pricing for the batteries from the manufacturers will be 20-30% higher in price than iPad 2 batteries from Simplo Technology Co. and Dynapack International Technology Corp., which are Apple’s contract suppliers for iPad and Macbook batteries. The new battery packs for the iPad 3 will start being manufactured the first quarter of 2012.

The good news? Ipad 3 battery packs will be delivered starting the fourth quarter of 2012, which might project a new iPad 3 by early spring 2013.

Steve Jobs Shakes Apple to its Core

clock August 25, 2011 09:08 by author Jeremy

Oh boy. The picture above is enough to cause commotion in the stock market, along with panic in the minds of Apple fanboys (and fangirls, of course), all because a single person has turned in their resignation letter. Then again, who wouldn't immediately panic when the infamous Steve Jobs decides to step down as Apple's CEO?

However, some rational thinking might help people to realize that not all is lost with the company of forbidden fruits. Back in 2009, Jobs left temporarily for medical reasons and was succeeded by Tim Cook. The same thing happened earlier this year and Cook has been running Apple on a day-to-day basis since January 17.

Also, according to Jobs' resignation letter, he won't actually be leaving Apple. "I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee." And the Board has approved just that; Jobs' new position actually gives him a little bit more flexibility, while still having a hand in the direction that Apple heads towards.

As expected, Apple's stock price dropped by 5% overnight. But when there's an Earthquake, don't you run and tell everyone first before acknowledging that it was a 1.5 magnitude? After the initial shock wears off, people will realize that Apple is still making their iPods, iPhones and iPads.

While it's true that Jobs had a certain epic stage performing ability that may be hard to recreate by his successor, it doesn't mean production will stop. We'll see how Cook carries on as the new permanent CEO - he may have had the role before, but now he officially has the world watching him.

SEI's Aluminum-Celmet, perfect for batteries

clock June 29, 2011 00:59 by author Jeremy

Simotomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (SEI) has developed a new battery based on Celmet, a highly porous metal made from nickel. Due to the structure of Celmet, it has become reknowned as a current-collecting ingredient, making it ideal for collecting charges in a battery.

Celmet has been gaining popularity recently due to its use in nickel-hydrogen batteries for hybrid cars. And now, SEI has combined Celmet with Aluminum, making the material Aluminum-Celmet.

This offers a few advantages, such as the fact that Aluminum is lighter than Celmet's frequent-partner Nickel. Also, Aluminum is used often with smaller batteries, such as AA's and AAA's. Due to its light weight, it coudl likely be added to lithium-ion secondary batteries and capacitors to improve their capacity.

With Aluminum-Celmet inside of rechargeable batteries, we could see the creation of even smaller, faster-charging batteries for our electronic devices.
