Which device runs HTML 5 faster? Apple iPhone 4S or Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
HTML 5 has been tested and proven to run faster on the Apple iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1, when compared to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This claim has been proven by a recent study at Spaceport.io with a benchmark called the PerfMarks Report. The PerfMarks test determines the number of moving images on a screen at a rate of 30 FPS (frames per second). Below are recent scores of the Apple iPhone 4S vs. the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

From Spaceport's data above, we see the Apple iPhone 4S is significantly better at handling HTML 5 than anything else out on the Android market. The iPhone 4S is able to run 252 images vs. the Samsung Galaxy Nexus at 147 images at 30 FPS.
If you want to see a full list of Spaceport's data that dates back to early 2009, check out the timeline below. You will find comparisons with the iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPhone 4, iPad 2, iPhone 4S, Motorola Droid 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Kindle Fire, and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

As you can see, year after year, Apple has beaten Android devices in both the smartphone and tablet markets with HTML 5 PerfMarks testing scores. However, the Android OS is closing the gap fast with new and faster releases such as ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich). The proposed and upcoming Google Android Jelly Bean and Key Lime Pie OS releases might give Apple a run for their money with speed.
On a side note, Google Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt stated February 28, 2012 at Mobile World Congress 2012 that people use Google Chrome because it is the most Secure, the Fastest, and it is Free! You can be rest assured that Google has their eyes set to be the fastest smartphone on the market. Here's the video of Eric Schmidt's quote about Chrome being the fastest! We skipped to 1:42 in the video to get straight to the point.
