Toshiba Unofficially Names Their Tablet: the Toshiba Tablet.

clock January 24, 2011 23:47 by author Jeremy

Yes, that's right folks: an official teaser website from Toshiba themselves shows (mostly already known) specs and pictures of their long-awaited device. The website's URL? Why, it's thetoshibatablet.com ....thus indicating that the name of their tablet (unless otherwise changed in the future) is... the Toshiba Tablet. Wow.

In more exciting news, the specs on the website show that the battery of this particular tablet will be replaceable, but only for the "screwdriver-savvy people".

Keep an eye out for Toshiba's latest products, including their aptly-named laptop (the Toshiba Laptop) and television (the Toshiba TV). You know we love you Toshiba. :)

Oh, and best of all? It seems we're not the only ones with a sense of humor. Try going to the website on an iPhone and see what happens.

Well played, Toshiba. I applaud you for that one.

CHOBi CAM ONE Brings Out Your Inner-Spy

clock January 22, 2011 01:07 by author Jeremy

Ever have a recurring dream where you're James Bond and you've been sent to spy on the enemy base with only floss, a microphone-pen and a tiny camera? ...No? .....Okay, just me then.

But in case you want that sort of dream to become reality, you'll first need a few things: floss, a microphone-pen, an enemy base, and JTT's newest "CHOBi CAM ONE".

The tiny DSLR spy-cam can shoot pictures in 1600x1200, and VGA video at 30 frames per second. For the creative-kind of spy, there's three magnetically-swappable lenses to fulfill your photographic-urge. And even better, the camera has a micro SD slot so that you can take as many pictures of secret documents as you want.

The CHOBi CAM ONE brings a whole new meaning to "micro DSLR". It's also only available in Japan, though. Guess I'll keep dreaming...

Cell Phones! And Laptops! And Tablets! Oh My!

clock January 20, 2011 00:11 by author Jeremy

...okay, so it's not quite as catchy as "Lions! And tigers! And bears!" but we'll likely have the same, "Oh my!" reaction during early February, when a string of companies will be holding their individual press events.

Starting with Sprint on February 7th, we're promised "yet another industry first"...along with David Blaine. I'm not sure how those two correlate at all, but I'll trust that Sprint is cooking up something fun for us. At the very least, you know they're cooking something good, as the bottom of their invitation implies.

Meanwhile, Dell's event will be held on the following day, February 8th, but slightly earlier in the morning. For those who are fond of sleeping in, keep in mind: breakfast is included.

Last-but-not-least, we have HP showcasing their stuff on February 9th. Their invitation seems to have changed slightly in the past few weeks though. Originally their slogan for the event was "Think big. Think small. Think beyond." Now, we see the same invitation, but prodding the folks over at engadget (such good sports, they are). It's all in good fun, of course, and HP's Marketing Technique here will surely draw attention to what's-to-come.

Now we get to wait for these events like children on Christmas morning. Oh, the torture.

New Apple iPhone 5 and iPad 2 Designs

iPhone 5 Redesign Beta

When will the new iPhone 5 be released by Apple? Sooner than you think with iPhone 5 and iPad 2 designs submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) this morning. The new iPhone 5 and iPad 2 patents suggest they will be slimmer, more powerful, battery efficient, power saving, and possible touch screen redesign.

"In many cases, the size of a portable electronic device can be limited by the size of the operational components used therein..." the application reads. "As such, there can be a desire to make these operational components smaller, thinner, more cost effective, and more power efficient, while maintaining or increasing their functionality to perform operations."

“Apple's proposed invention would have conductive nodes placed on a surface opposite a touch panel or display. The two surfaces would be in close proximity, which would allow conductive electrodes and conductive nodes to sense fingertips on the touchable surface.”

Some other additions could be made with the iPhone 5, including antenna adjustment to alleviate the death grip reception problem, possibly ditching the “Home Button” at the bottom of the screen, glass that is non-smudge and crack resistant, more memory (64GB and up), 4G capabilities, and possible Bluetooth 3.0. We also have the possibility of one chip including multi-band GSM, CDMA, and LTE technology to eliminate Apple making two different phones for Verizon and AT&T and just make one compatible for both cell phone networks.

BlackBerry Thursday! One Release, Two Leaks, Three Shouts of Joy

clock January 13, 2011 23:56 by author Jeremy

Today, BlackBerry has announced it's newest phone during an event in Boston: the BlackBerry Balance. As the name implies, the phone seeks to create a balance between work and personal life. With smartphones becoming ever-so-popular, BlackBerry users have been missing out on a bit of the fun, but hopefully not anymore.

With the Balance, the user and the folks over at IT can create a distinct difference in contact information. IT can also include warnings for emails and calendar events being sent out through personal emails, limit transfers for data from work to personal, and manage your BlackBerry without touching the personal content. Pricing and availability have yet to be released.

On a less "official" note (read: leaks!), we've heard news of the BlackBerry Dakota and the BlackBerry Apollo (the next-gen Curve). While both contain a 5 megapixel camera and a bunch of technical goodies, there's a few differences with them. See the specs below for details (big thanks to BGR for the info!)
